MMVC21 DAY 3 My Reflections

 MMVC21 DAY  3 My  Reflections

The journey is about to end.  Now I am working on the final recordings and here you can find my reflections.

The events took place on Sunday 8th August 2021.

Here is the schedule of the events, I did not follow the order and chose to start watching the final ones.

Mandeep Kaur- Learn to Lead the Virtual Class

SHEETU KHANNA- ICT Tools - A helping hand in the new Era

Plamen Kushkiev- Who I am becoming is HOw I teach....

Ewa Kozłowska- 2021s challenges and achievements...

Nives Torresi & Sheryl McCoy- Online team work and collaboration

Maha Hassan- A new Outlook for Assessment

Judy Wong- Where do I go from here ?

Dr. Nellie Deutsch- Closing Cerimony

I chose to start with Judy Wong since I have always been inspired by her activities. Then I watched all the other presentations.

It was a journey through different experiences and were educators reflected on their teaching experiences. The Covid has reshaped our way of working. From spring 2020 schools and universities have had new ways of delivering lessons. It has been challenging and also something new.

I felt interested and motivated, I thought that no man is an island and thanks to many apps and people goal-minded like Doctor Nellie we can cope with difficulties and working on bettering education.

Now I am looking forward to learning more together and to the next Virtual Conference! Thank you to all the great speakers!

MMVC21 DAY 2 Reflecting on the recordings

 DAY 2- Saturday  7th August

  Struggling Learners and Engaging Activities

The second day of the Conference on line was about different aspect and issues related to the word of teaching. Teaching implies reflecting on our daily activities and also on the well-being of our learners.  I had to watch the recordings later and I am going to write about the ideas and my reflections on what I saw- some speakers were really engaging and I wish I could work with them!

In this way I feel that I am part of a community of active learners and teachers who are working on developing self-esteem and on facilitating the students in their struggle to achieve goals in education.

I did watch all the recordings online and  I must confess that I should have spent more time on them.  I am a lover of online learning but......  it is difficult to be concentrated when you are watching so many in just a few  hours!

Here is the collection of the video and the main screenshots which I took while watching online...............

  • Dr. Anitha  Devi V- Multimodal Language Learning Activities   Recording

Nellie's presentation on Youtube  : ".....3D images and virtual worlds, augmented reality has transformed the multimodal experiences of yesteryear combinations like text: subtitles, karaoke and video, songs, images, graphics, music, comics, cartoons, games. The influence of immersive environments is inevitable in this web of networked-techno-driven pedagogic worlds......"

  • Dr. Aabha  Sharma- Innovative Pedagogies to achieve Course Outcomes      Recording

  • Rob Howard - Hybrid  Educating  Becoming  Tomorrow's teacher Today    Recording

  • Hanaa Khamis - Teaching Conversation remotely  Recording

My  Reflections

It seems that  education  has changed since the Covid and I do agree that we will continue our  professional development by facilitating our  learners and by supporting them. Human beings are  central and the role of teachers is can be the key to success. Teachers are using modern technologies, webapps and have changed their way of  teaching:  they teach online and in presence , the blended learning model will be the future.   Struggling learners will be  helped and teachers will care for them.
The second day of the  MMVC21 was inspiring and I have appreciated some presentations because they have  focussed on the challenges.....

I will provide the main replies based on what we have been asked to do.

Did you connect with the others ?

I did not connect with speakers but I tried to write my comments on the presentations while I was watching some recordings.

What questions came up to your mind as you watched the event?

I really appreciated the presentation by  Hanaa Khamis and thought that what she described was a great online course about conversation but probably when dealing with younger learners the framework of the course should be different - university students may find some difficulties but they are more interested than the teenagers . In my school we had conversation classes and the teacher was guided into the online topics but with over 24 students she really had to change some modalities of work.

Did the content relate to you as a teacher and also as an individual?

Yes, most of the content was about  the difficulties of the learners and how technology can be supportive.   Dr. Ramesh Sharma was great as he focussed on the difficulties of both learners and teachers....... while Dr. Ebba Ossiannilsson presented the future of education and how everything is changing. However, while I was listening I thought about the great differences among teachers living in rich countries and in the developing world. Europe is a continent that cares for its citizens but this is not happening everywhere.

What were some of the thoughts that went through your mind as your watched the presentation?

I really loved the presentation by  Dr. Aabha  Sharma- Innovative Pedagogies to achieve Course Outcomes  and I thought that  I need to find more information about the use of  apps and in particular of the  use of  some apps  you can install on your smartphones. We are still learning but we are developing and  modern technology can  make a difference  to get our learners more engaged. This implies that educators are working and learning  most of the time to cover new lesson plans and to achieve the students' goals.

How did you feel as you watched the event?

I felt relaxed but also a bit tired and I had to stop yesterday since I wanted to reflect and to write down some notes for my post. Over 5 recordings of the Conference online are sometimes hard work.

What challenges might you encounter in implementing some of the ideas?

We do need to work on our CPD and to rely on the  teachers' groups that can support us.  I will follow  Dr. Ebba  and  Rob Howard since they have been working in the field of education for a long time and  I will try to watch  Rob's  Youtube Channel.

What steps can you take to resolve the challenges?

I will share some ideas and tips which I have just learnt about with other educators . It is important to be focussed but also to reflect. This is something which is missing in my school and  I will start reading more about resilience and Mindfullness since education after the pandemic  changed  the learning environment and we are not the same. In this way I think that there will be many challanges.

What would you like to do in the future as a result of what you heard, read, saw?

I have just bought an ebook about  Mindfullness and I will learn more about new  apps.

I have downloaded a document from the web that I am going to read and it is about the  issue of education in Europe. We were not ready  in 2020 and now we have to care  because of the learning loss

https://op.europa.eu/en/publication-detail/-/publication/a3527a20-c4dd-11eb-a925-01aa75ed71a1/language-en

SOME QUESTIONS...............

I have also to think about the learning  difficulties related to some countries and  I have some questions that  might be asked to  Doctor Ebba: will OPEN SOURCES  and MOOCs   help and support educators in the developing countries  ?  I feel that the " The world is OPEN"  but ...... some countries are developing faster and the gap seems to be bigger.  I am trying to be optimistic......

As for the world of  Business , yes I agree that English will be  important in the next ten years but .....  I feel that people should learn other languages as you learn more about the people who are going to work with.... In Europe we would like to promote  the learning of more than one foreign language ...... since  learning a foreing language opens your mind..... so we would like our  learners to study Spanish, to study French and I would also add...........  Chinese........

And here is my next  journey :  Learning about  Mindfullness and also  how have some mindfullness activities in my lessons................. this is also thanks to Doctor Nellie who introduced it in a conference

MMVC21 - DAY 1 Watching the recordings and reflecting online

MMVC21  started on 6th August. I was not online so I am writing about this day after watching the recordings ..............

It is a Virtual Conference online with many speakers from all over the world. Everybody focussed on interesting topics related to education.

I have followed many conferences online in the last  years. Some speakers have  been in these events for years. I must confess that althuogh I did not have the time to watch  live events I could not but  watch the recordings which were  uploaded.

August is the month when I am free but after the Pandemic changed our way of working  I have been busy in the summer- I watched the live events from Dublin in 2019 but last year I could not work on the reflections .

Here you can see the  Bios of the speakers- I will then reflect on the events online on the first day.

MMVC21 Bios

Doctor Nellie Deutsch- the person who has  always run the events

I cannot but tell you that the organizer is a great educator who  loves working together and also sharing.  She has invited speakers to share their teaching ideas and  also  to help us  reflect on our teaching and how the world of learning has  changed.

Here is the whole conference planning

DAY 1  Anan AbdElRahman - PROMOTING CREATIVITY IN THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

After watching the recording online here are my reflections based on what I saw:

Did you connect with the others ?

I did not connect with speakers but I wish I could have done it. I found some interesting presentations and met engaging presenters who shared ideas and also provided me with some tips. There were some speakers I had been familiar with like Dr. Bob Diotalevi and also the idea of online work and how hard it might be or how hard educators worked last year and also this year. Sue Anne and also Ludmila were great in presenting the challenges of teaching online.

What questions came up to your mind as you watched the event?

I had no questions but I thought that the XXI century started in 2020 spring when most educators had to come to terms with teaching online and to deal with different learning environments. Technology can really help but most of us felt under pressure.

Did the content relate to you as a teacher and also as an individual?

Yes, what the educators shared online were tips and also interesting experiences online and how they also have to struggle and had to struggle to develop activities and to find activities that are challenging for the students regardless of their level.

What were some of the thoughts that went through your mind as your watched the presentation?

I thought that in spite of the difficulties during the COVID PANDEMIC we were able to create content, provide lessons and most of the educators have worked on themselves to become more expert in teaching while using LMS like Moodle, GOOGLE Suite and other ones.

I was impressed by the level of engagement of the teachers like Anna who presented the project related to teaching to people who are over 60 . This is one of the main ideas related to the European Union. There are projects that want to improve literacy and also online learning regardless of your age.

As regards Creativity I am still learning and I am trying to work on delivering materials and activities which are catching and engaging. I am doing my best.... but it takes time ...............

How did you feel as you watched the event?

It was challenging and also interesting because I realized that in spite of the many difficulties there is an online community of educators who are working and have developed their skills to enhance their learning and also teaching.

What challenges might you encounter in implementing some of the ideas?

It is part of our job: an educator is a life-long learner and thus we will continue working in order to provide a better learning environment.

I do hope we will work face to face starting from September but using webtools will support us.

What steps can you take to resolve the challenges?

We will become better teachers if we learn and share ideas. In my school I do need to rely on more collaboration and sharing ideas. We will never success unless we are a team and learn how to work together.

What would you like to do in the future as a result of what you heard, read, saw?

I will explore some tools online and I will continue online learning thanks to many Moocs and also to the online community of educators that love sharing ideas and tips.

I have no questions so far but I think that the final part of Ludmila is worth sharing: reflection will continue to be part of my mindset .

I would like to thank Tamara for the great presentation dealing with Reading and how to teach Reading with Struggling learners. I will explore the following saurces which she shared with us.

MMVC21- Entering the Conference online ..... a bit later

The  MMVC21  took place  from  6th to 8th  August 2021

I meant to be online but  like last year I was not able to be virtually present online  and  to cover the meetings . I am writing now  about these events since  I must admit that  I love learning and  getting to know more ideas about  the world of  teaching. I had enrolled but since  I am about to start school in a few weeks  this time of the year is a bit  a busy one.

This implies that I was not interactive online and I watched the recordings but I will post some reflections here and in the Moodle Platform which has been offered by Doctor Nellie Deutsch.

More details can be found here  :

Celebrating the VIRTUAL CONFERENCE ONLINE

Here is the Opening Cerimony- Doctor Nellie made a nice presentation for the beginning of the event and also to make people feel comfortable from home while learning together from different parts of the world!

In the next posts you will find my reflections. Check them  later!
